Ian 'Mountaingoat' Fraser and Chris 'Ashioto' Lynch are walking the length of Japan, beginning in early April this year and covering all four of the main islands. Ian is walking from Japan's most-easterly to its most-westerly point; Chris from the most-southerly to the most-northerly point. As Japan is oriented in a narrow, angled line, the journeys are almost identical except for the beginnings and ends, and we will meet and pass somewhere in the middle. To ensure that both walkers cover a similar distance, and to provide two viewpoints of the same areas, we have chosen 20 'waypoints' through which me both must pass. These range from mountain summits to restaurants, shrines, hot springs etc. The journey will cover well over 2,000 miles and take up to five months. We will be stealth-camping for most of the walk.
Blogging Area: Although Australian, we have been based in Tokyo since September last year.
Blogging Since: We've had it up since early last year and are still blogging regularly, outlining our preparations, training hikes, gear, general observations re Japan etc.
