The Good, the Bad, and the Outdoors blog-screenshot2

Last summer we spent a fair amount of time hiking.  Trying to find new places to go proved to be a bit of a challenge.  After searching so called hiking and or trail websites for park and trail information, in many instances, we found ourselves on trails that were not properly marked, maintained, or not accurately described.  This lead to hikes where we were desperately in need of a machete or walks on paved trails with stroller moms.

In this blog, we hope to provide other hikers with this kind of information.  We also want to highlight special and interesting features including geology, wildlife, and other interesting bits we come across.

this is a new blog documenting our trials and tribulation on getting started on our hike to Canada from new york city. We will be blogging along the way to put out there our experiences on the trail. We are taking the long path to the Appalachian trail to the long trail in Vermont. This seems to be the most direct way but also the most strenuous. We are planning on ending our trip in Montreal. We are both beginner hikers and this is a blog about how to go out there and just do it.

hike-through-life1

www.hikethroughlife.com

When I started dating my husband, one of the prerequisites to marriage was a willingness to be active outdoors.  This blog is an account of the good, bad, and ugly we have experienced on our hike through life in both the literal and figurative sense. Yes, we love hiking, backpacking, biking, skiing, and camping and there are many stories to tell, but there are many other stories about just our life’s journey together that are worthy of sharing.  Our favorite places to hike are the Pacific Northwest and the Rockies.  However, being from Michigan, many of our lake shore hikes are some of the breathtaking as well.  I try to update weekly!

Adventure Team and Gear Reviews

On this blog we talk about all of the many adventures we go on. Everything from hiking to camping and kayaking to fishing is written about. We also review many different types of gear and provide our honest opinions. We love hearing about others adventures, and are always looking for new and interesting things to do in the outdoors. We partnered with OutdoorPros.com to help make people aware of the outdoor gear they have available. By far our favorite place to hike so far has been the Zion National Park in Southern Utah.

Based in Southern California but travel as much as possible

Hiking With My brother

Born and raised in the Pacific Northwest, our enthusiasm for the outdoors was cultivated at a young age by trips to the Columbia River Gorge, Bend, Mt. Rainer, St. Helens, etc. After college we sought out a new challenge and decided to tackle Mt. Rainer. After months of training we’d reached our goal and attained Columbia Crest on September 7th, 2008.

In the weeks that followed we resolved to keep up our training regimen of weekly hikes to stay in shape.   Idle trail talk led us to set a goal for ourselves: explore all the hikes in Harvey Manning and Ira Spring’s 55 Hikes around Snoqualmie Pass.  Before long, we decided it would be fun to track our progress, and hikingwithmybrother.com was born.

The website has improved a great deal over the years.  Our trip reports focus on recommending hikes we like, detailing the pitfalls, capturing the essence of the hike in pictures, and striving to give a little extra background to the hikes we do.  We’ve moved beyond the confines of Snoqualmie Pass, while still working toward our original goal.  Along the way we’ve met a lot of hikers and outdoor lovers, as well as partnering with backpacker.com and wta.org Today we continue to hike almost every week, but we no longer do it simply for the exercise, we also do it for everyone that follows hikingwithmybrother.com and enjoys up-to-date trail reports, out of the way destinations, and adventuresome hikes.

We hope you like what we’ve put together for you at hikingwithmybrother.com and use us as a resource in the future.  Please feel free to drop us a line at hikingwithmybrother@gmail.com, visit our Facebook Page or follow us on Twitter.

SoCal Hikes and Peakbagging

This site began in November of 2008 as a way to involve Photography and Hiking two of my great passions.

This site focuses on hiking Hundred Peaks Section (HPS), Desert Peaks Section (DPS) and San Diego County (SDC) peak lists created by the Sierra Club. There are trip reports and photography as I continue to check off peaks from these lists. There is also a rich mapping application where people can find elevation profiles, trail routes, peak locations and National Park and Forest Land.

Dressed in Dirt
Dressed in Dirt is a blog about my experiences as a female backpacker. I’ve been blogging for a while, but I started this site in May 2009 so that I could share stories about my time on the Appalachian Trail. I’ve writing about my adventures so much, that I’m continuing to write from my home in Portland.
