I am hiking The Half Dome hike at the end of June. Any direction on hiking shoes. I have above the ankle and below the ankle. Both gortex and well broken in. My hiking boots are heavier than my hiking shoes and it's quite a trek with boots. Just wondering about rocks and such...

Yosemite is the most unbelievable place on the planet. The first time I hiked in Yosemite was in 1964 and it was not as crowded as it is today. It left me with an indelible memory.

Today it is great other than in the summer when the crowds are everywhere. I suggest going in the early fall after the tourists have cleared out and before the weather changes. It is unreal.
